Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The Master of Education program is designed to provide the academic foundations and depth you will need to advance in your career within the education community, take on leadership roles within the profession, and make significant contributions to the future of children, youth, and families.  This Master of Education Program is designed for teachers who already have an endorsement or other professional educators, and does not include teacher certification.  If you are looking to become a certified teacher you can look at our K-8 post Baccalaureate program or our Secondary and Middle Level M.Ed. Program.

""Curriculum Leadership

The Curriculum Leadership Concentration is for educators who want the knowledge and skills to influence curriculum change in K-12 schools
and higher education. Educators will learn about alternative educational models and methods that will challenge the status quo. These courses are
designed to help educators become transformative curriculum leaders who seek equity, democracy, and social justice in education.


Literacy Assessment and Instruction

The Literacy Assessment and Instruction Concentration focuses on reading theory and pedagogy in a wide range of contexts, from fostering emergent literacy development to working with readers who struggle and to supporting the literacy skills of English Language Learners.  


Mathematics and Science Education

The Mathematics & Science Concentration is designed for educators who are focused on improving access to mathematics and science education for all
students. Work with thoughtful faculty researching the most current topics of teaching in STEM fields and use what you learn in improve your students’ experiences and build your own foundation of knowledge in
Math and Science education. These courses will help to prepare teachers to meet the diverse needs of their students by focusing on inquiry-oriented learning, real world contexts, and authentic assessments.


English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

A high quality, academically rigorous ESOL program conveniently located at UW Bothell. More than just tips and tricks in the classroom, the UW Bothell ESOL program provides you with an opportunity to understand the students in your classroom and the other people around you who come from homes where English is not the primary language.  This concentration can lead to a ESOL Endorsement for practicing teachers who hold an elementary or secondary teaching certificate. 

""National Board Seminars

The UWB School of Educational Studies is pleased to offer three seminars in National Board Portfolio development and support.  These seminars will focus on all 4 of the National Board portfolio components.  They are designed to support students through discussion of relevant readings, protocols and feedback on writing, and studio work times.

Graduate Certificate in Digital Teaching and Learning

In this 15 credit Graduate Certificate in Digital Teaching and Learning, educators will deepen their skills and critical knowledge of teaching and learning within networked, participatory digital culture.  Educators will learn digital pedagogical strategies that support deep learning and enable new modes of support for diverse learners.  Looking beyond the classroom, educators will also learn to prepare students for full participation in civic and cultural life that is increasingly mediated via participatory digital platforms. The Certificate can be taken as  a “stand alone” program for those who are not seeking a full graduate degree, or via a combination of M.Ed. electives plus  9 additional credits beyond the M.Ed.  The Certificate appears on UW transcripts.
